I recognise that your privacy is important. This document outlines the types of personal information I receive and collect when you use Irish-Genealogy-Toolkit.com and IrishGenealogyNews.com, as well as some of the steps I take to safeguard information. This will help you make an informed decision about sharing personal information with me.

As the sole manager of Irish-Genealogy-Toolkit.com and IrishGenealogyNews.com  (referred to collectively below as IGT.com) I strive to maintain the highest standards of decency, fairness and integrity in all my operations. Likewise, I am committed to protecting your data and privacy.

About Cookies

Cookies and web beacons are small chunks of data created by a web server.

They arrive via your web browser (ex. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc) and are stored on your computer.

Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. They prevent you having to re-enter your information on certain website from scratch each time you visit that site.

I use cookies on Irish-Genealogy-Toolkit.com and IrishGenealogyNews.com to help me identify and track visitors, their use of my website and blog, and their access preferences.

Google Analytics cookies

Irish-Genealogy-Toolkit.com and IrishGenealogyNews.com use Google Analytics to analyze the use of these sites. Google Analytics collects demographic and interest data, and generates statistical and other information about website/blog use, by means of cookies. These cookies are kept on your computer. I share this analytical information with Google, which stores and use this information on its servers. Google's privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Irish-Genealogy-Toolkit.com and IrishGenealogyNews.com use information from Google Analytics to track the number of visits to the websites, browsers and operating systems.

A cookie only gives me the data you choose to share with me. NO personally identifiable information is obtained from these cookies.

I use the information that Google Analytics generates relating to my websites to create reports about the use of the sites. These reports allow me to update the sites and improve your usage of them.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of the websites (see further down).

If you do not wish your data to be collected via Google Analytics, you can install its opt-out browser extension or add-on.

Advertising Cookies

I use third-party advertising companies to serve ads on my websites. These companies use cookies and web beacons in their ads to ascertain how many times you've seen an advertisement. We share this information with these companies, but do not provide them with any personally identifiable information for cookie or web beacon use, so they cannot personally identify you with that information from our websites.

You may opt out of personalized ads for over 125 different ad networks. Click here to do that.

Affiliate products and services

I receive an affiliate commission for some, but not all, of the  products/services mentioned or promoted on Irish-Genealogy-Toolkit.com and IrishGenealogyNews.com. This commission is small, but helps to offset some of the costs of managing, hosting and updating two large sites. It also helps me to pay for the subscriptions to some of the major family history databases (I do not receive free access from any of the database suppliers; I pay the same rates as every other customer).

When I mention these products/services or include a relevant advert of a product/service, I do so only if I have used their product/service and am comfortable to recommend their product/service to other researchers.

By clicking on a product or service link, you consent to that platform's use of cookies, as outlined in the documents linked to here:
